Opportunities at SBL

Graduate Students

We are always looking for brilliant graduate students that share our passion for mechanobiology, systems modeling and tissue engineering. SBL is part of the biophysics and systems pharmacology (BSP) multidisciplinary training area within the Mount Sinai Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. We don’t like to label scientists as experimental and computational people; graduate training in SBL focuses on quantitative biology and bioengineering using both experimental and computational tools. If you are a prospective student interested in joining us, we invite you to apply for one of the PhD or MD/PhD programs at Mount Sinai http://icahn.mssm.edu/education/graduate.

Master’s Students: We have several short-term research projects at the lab that are specifically appropriate for Master’s students; some of these are supported by industry. Whether you are interested in a career in academia/medicine or biotechnology/entrepreneurship, if you are enrolled in the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program, please reach out and email evren.azeloglu(at)mssm.edu.

Postdoctoral Fellows

We always welcome postdoctoral candidates with strong training in cell and molecular biology as well as systems biology or bioinformatics. If interested, please email evren.azeloglu(at)mssm.edu.

We hope to add a driven, resourceful individual to our team at the Azeloglu Lab in the Division of Nephrology at Mount Sinai. We are a multidisciplinary group studying systems-level characteristics of cellular mechanobiology using a wide variety of biological and engineering methods. Projects may range from biophysical fingerprinting of drug toxicity to multi-omics screening of new drug targets for nephropathy. All team members are expected to get their hands dirty with both the experimental and computational aspects of the work. The ideal individual should have a PhD in biological/biomedical sciences or bioengineering, and should value curiosity and critical thinking just as much as technical prowess as a bench scientist. Some key aspects that would undoubtedly help:

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is part of an internationally acclaimed health system located at the heart of New York City. We are committed to promoting diversity, equal opportunity, and affirmative action at all levels, and we strongly encourage applications from women, individuals with disabilities, and members of underrepresented groups. If interested, please email evren.azeloglu(at)mssm.edu. You can get more information about our science here.
